CCIP Self-Placed Internships

On January 16th, 2022, five participants, Elvis, William, Seth, Zili, and Chang Jing, took a trip to Santa Cruz Beach. The day was perfect for their adventure, with clear skies and a gentle breeze. They arrived at the beach in the morning and immediately started exploring the area. The group played beach volleyball, went for a swim in the ocean, and even tried their hand at surfing. Later in the day, they enjoyed a picnic lunch and watched the sun set over the ocean. It was a memorable day filled with laughter, adventure, and great company. The group left Santa Cruz Beach feeling refreshed and grateful for the experience.

On April 22nd, 2022, RO Elizabeth hosted a dinner with her current interns and alumni in San Francisco. The interns in attendance were Elvis, William, Seth, Zili, Seah, and Chang Jing, who were excited to have the opportunity to connect with their former mentor and other alumni. Mira and Clarissa, two accomplished alumni, were also in attendance, adding to the lively atmosphere of the evening. The group gathered at a popular restaurant in the city and enjoyed a delicious meal while sharing stories and catching up with each other. RO Elizabeth offered valuable insights and advice based on her experience in the industry, inspiring the interns to continue pursuing their goals and aspirations. It was a fun and engaging evening, filled with laughter, good food, and great company. Zaron visited Boston’s Chinatown and had an unforgettable experience exploring the vibrant cultural hub. With its bustling streets, colorful storefronts, and delectable cuisine, Boston’s Chinatown is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to immerse themselves in Asian-American culture. Zaron spent hours wandering through the neighborhood’s many shops, restaurants, and markets, soaking up the sights, sounds, and smells of this bustling community. They had the opportunity to try delicious traditional dishes such as dim sum, Chinese BBQ pork, and bubble tea. Zaron also learned about the rich history of the neighborhood and its significance to the Asian-American community in Boston. Overall, the visit to Boston’s Chinatown was a highlight of Zaron’s trip, and they would recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and memorable cultural experience.

Participant Jimmy recently took a trip to Washington D.C. to explore the city’s rich history and culture. During his visit, he took in some of the city's most famous landmarks and attractions, including the National Mall, the Smithsonian museums, and the White House. Jimmy was particularly struck by the beauty and grandeur of the monuments and memorials, such as the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, which brought to life the inspiring stories of the nation’s past. His trip to D.C. was a memorable experience that he will cherish for years to come.

On the evening of March 9th, 2022, RO Elizabeth hosted a special sushi dinner event for a group of interns and alumni. Interns Jordon, Zaron, Sheryl, and Isabelle gathered at RO House for a night of sushi and conversation with alumna Austrid. The event was a great success, with everyone enjoying the food, company, and atmosphere. The interns and alumni chatted and mingled throughout the meal, discussing their experiences at RO and their aspirations for the future.

Zaron attended a company off-site event that involved a thrilling ropes course experience. The event was aimed at team building and bonding, and it certainly achieved its objective. Zaron joined his colleagues in taking on the challenging ropes course, which featured various obstacles and tests of strength and endurance. Throughout the day, Zaron and his team worked together to navigate the course, encouraging and supporting each other along the way. The event was a success, not only in terms of building stronger relationships among team members but also in providing an exciting and memorable experience for all who participated.

Participant Jimmy attended the Oishii Halloween Event on October 28th at a local Japanese restaurant in downtown Los Angeles. The event was a festive celebration of Halloween with a Japanese twist, featuring special themed dishes, drinks, and decorations. Attendees were encouraged to dress up in their favorite costumes, and there was even a costume contest with prizes for the winners. Jimmy enjoyed the unique atmosphere and delicious food, as well as the opportunity to socialize with other attendees who share his love of Japanese culture and cuisine.

Jordon attended the Google Startup Community Day on November 8, 2022. The event was held at the Google headquarters in Mountain View, California and aimed to bring together aspiring and established entrepreneurs to share ideas, network, and learn from experienced professionals. The theme of the day was “Building for the Future” and focused on the latest trends and strategies in the tech industry. Jordon found the event to be a great opportunity to meet like-minded individuals and gain valuable insights into the startup world. He attended various sessions and workshops throughout the day, covering topics such as product development, fundraising, and marketing.

On November 22, 2022, Jordon attended a networking event with FUSIA staff at the Yale Club, which was organized by the American China Business Institute. During the event, Jordon had the opportunity to network with various individuals and also enjoyed a dinner with them. Additionally, ping pong was played, which provided a fun and interactive way for everyone to socialize and engage with one another. Overall the event proved to be a great success, as it offered an excellent platform for Jordon to meet new people and expand his professional network.

Isabelle, a young and adventurous student, recently embarked on an exciting trip to Florida with some fellow exchange students. The group was eager to explore the Sunshine State, which is renowned for its beautiful beaches, lively nightlife, and world-famous amusement parks. During their stay, Isabelle and her friends visited some of the most popular tourist attractions in the area, including Universal Studios, Miami Beach, and the Kennedy Space Center. They also had the chance to try some delicious local cuisine and soak up the vibrant culture of Miami. Overall, the trip was a memorable experience that Isabelle will cherish for years to come.

Isabelle had the opportunity to attend a Celtics game with her friend from Kazakhstan. The two had met during Isabelle’s travels to Central Asia and had stayed in touch ever since. During the game, Isabelle and her friend cheered on the Celtics as they battled against their opponents on the court. On January 30th, 2022, six friends, Elvis, William, Seth, Zili, Seah, and Chang Jing, gathered in their apartment to celebrate the Chinese New Year with a hotpot party. The group had prepared a delicious spread of meats, vegetables, and noodles, which they cooked in a simmering pot of flavorful broth at the center of the table. They enjoyed a fun and festive evening, sharing stories and catching up on each other’s lives. The hotpot was a hit, with everyone enjoying the various flavors and ingredients. The group also exchanged red envelopes filled with lucky money, a traditional Chinese New Year practice. It was a memorable night filled with laughter, good food, and great company. The friends bid farewell to the Year of the Tiger and welcomed the Year of the Rabbit with open arms.

Participant Arun visited the Pulgas Water Temple, a historic landmark located in San Mateo County, California. Isabelle took a trip to New York City to reunite with friends she met during her time at NYU. The trip was filled with holiday festivities as they celebrated Christmas and New Year’s Eve together. Isabelle and her friends had a Christmas party, exchanging gifts and catching up on each other’s lives. On New Year’s Eve, they went out to celebrate the start of the new year with fireworks and the famous ball drop in Times Square. Participant Arun visited Stanford University in California, known for its world-renowned academic programs and cutting-edge research. Arun was particularly interested in exploring the campus and experiencing the university’s vibrant atmosphere firsthand. During his visit, he had the opportunity to tour the campus, visit the libraries and museums, and attend a lecture on artificial intelligence. Participant Arun attended an ice hockey match with his colleagues, an experience that left him thoroughly entertained and impressed. Participant Arun embarked on a solo trip to NASA in Houston, Texas. Participant Jie Song attended the Bay Area Crypto meet up organized by DCN studios on March 5th at a local venue in San Francisco. Participant William attended CryptoMondays Palo Alto - How NFTs Will Change the Music Industry on March 8th at a local venue. Participant Chang Jing attended Tokenizing Silicon Valley Bi-weekly Networking on March 8th at a popular venue in the heart of Silicon Valley. Participant Alex attended the MIT 100K Accelerator on April 1st at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The event was designed to bring together entrepreneurs and innovators from around the world to compete for a chance to win funding and support for their startups. The accelerator program consisted of a series of workshops, mentorship sessions, and pitch competitions aimed at helping entrepreneurs refine their business plans and bring their ideas to life. For Alex, participating in the accelerator was an incredibly valuable experience.

Participant Elvis attended a 3-day conference with a tour group to Notre Dame University and Rochester Institute of Technology.
