This summer, Garrett, a student from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, joined the office of New York State Assemblywoman Grace Lee as a legislative intern through FUSIA’s CCIP Exchange Visitor Program. Working in the heart of Manhattan’s political district, Garrett gained firsthand exposure to local policymaking and constituent engagement, contributing to daily operations while observing the inner workings of US state government.

The internship is part of a broader effort to strengthen leadership ties between the US and Indo-Pacific through selective cross-cultural placements. For Garrett, the experience has been both professionally enriching and personally meaningful — offering not only insight into civic service but also the chance to represent NTU in one of the world’s most diverse political arenas.
