Daphne, a passionate humanities major at Hong Kong Baptist University, and Mitra, a dedicated student from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, embarked on transformative internships during 2023 with Congresswoman Grace Meng in Flushing, Queens, New York.
Congresswoman Grace Meng is a dedicated Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives, representing New York's 6th congressional district. Her commitment to advocacy for her constituents makes her an inspiration to young individuals like Daphne and Mitra.
Daphne interned during the summer of 2023, while Mitra had his internship during the winter of the same year. Both seized the opportunity to explore the intricacies of the United States federal system and broaden their horizons.
During their internships, Daphne and Mitra played vital roles in building relationships with constituents, understanding their concerns, and bridging the gap between constituents and federal institutions. They attended numerous meetings and events alongside Congresswoman Meng, enriching their understanding of the dynamic U.S. political landscape.
Beyond the title of "congresswoman," Daphne and Mitra believe in the true essence of public service and meaningful engagement with constituents. They found fulfillment and inspiration in their work environment and camaraderie with colleagues. Daphne and Mitra encourage fellow interns to reach out, as such interactions often lead to valuable insights and mutual growth.
Their internships deepened their understanding of the U.S. political system, instilled profound senses of duty towards serving the public, and provided them with a platform to make a lasting impact on society.
