Allthenticate had sent our software engineers to Pycon 2024 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to learn more about the current state of Python by listening to engaging talks by Python experts. We also had the opportunity to network with other professionals in various computing fields and interact with technical leads of the programs we use daily, like VS Code and Amazon. We then shared these learnings with the rest of Allthenticate to improve our workflow and practices. Outside of the conference, I also took the opportunity to explore Pittsburgh and see the sights in the "city of bridges" and taste local delicacies as well.

Over the past three months, J-1 exchange intern Timothy has made the most of every long holiday by traveling. Each city and state they visit has its own unique culture, history, and cuisine. What stood out most for Timothy the most was his most recent trip to Chicago was the guided boat tour, where the guide shared the fascinating history of the city’s development. The stunning architecture was absolutely breathtaking and left a lasting impression on Timothy.

FUSIA's J-1 exchange intern Brian had the chance to travel with some friends to Montauk, a beautiful location at the tip of Long Island. It was a great short weekend trip during which they saw a full rainbow, chatted with friendly locals, and walked along pristine beaches.

Fusia's J-1 exchange intern Liya embarked on a memorable trip to Maine with friends and their families. As they drove from Somerville to Ogunquit, they stopped at Fort Williams Park and a stunning beach, whose name they couldn't recall. Along the way, they toured the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where Liya’s friend studies plastic engineering. Liya, a materials science and engineering student herself, was thrilled to see many of the university's facilities in person which she found relevant to her studies in Singapore. The trip was also a culinary delight, with a traditional fried seafood lunch, followed by a flavorful dinner featuring Spanish seafood paella and classic lobster rolls.

As a fellow intern prepared to leave during his final week, J-1 exchange intern Sid suggested doing something special to wrap up their time together. He mentioned he would be learning to surf for the first time that weekend, and invited his fellow interns to join him and meet his friends from Stanford University. It was a great, albeit cold, day at the beach. Despite being his first time, Sid taught the group how to catch waves. They all had an eventful experience—surfing, chatting, spotting whales, and enjoying a hearty lunch.

J-1 exchange intern Liya attended a company social at Nahant Beach with colleagues. The day started off wonderfully, filled with games, pastries, fruits, and the simple joy of soaking their feet in the water. Liya specifically recalled discovering what was thought to be a rare seashell. The outing took an unexpected turn when a sudden thunderstorm drenched everyone in seconds. However, the rush of events ended at the CEO’s house, where they spent the evening enjoying puzzles, pizza, Nintendo Switch games, and the company of cats. Although Liya was disappointed by the ruined pastries, the day ended being unexpectedly fun and brought everyone closer together than before!

One thing America has that Singapore doesn’t is its stunning national parks. FUSIA's J-1 exchange intern Timothy and his friends took advantage of this and traveled all the way to San Francisco, followed by a four-hour drive to Yosemite National Park. The towering sequoia trees were truly magnificent, and the stargazing that night was an unforgettable experience—something that could never be witnessed in a city with light pollution. The next day, they embarked on a long hike to the nearest waterfall, where they thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of nature.

The Fourth of July is arguably the most celebrated holiday in the United States and I celebrated it with my friends, watching the fireworks on the Esplanade by the Charles River. The display on the day itself was exceptionally magical and beautiful, a highlight in a week filled with nightly fireworks leading up to the big day. I also went to Long Wharf to watch the fireworks from the piers the day before, which offered a stunning view. On the Fourth itself, my housemates and I hosted a small party at our house, inviting friends for a night of fun and music. One of our friends, a DJ, played some great tunes, and we enjoyed bobbing to the music in our rooftop open area as we watched the fireworks. It was so nice to see everyone enjoying and celebrating together!

During the 4th of July weekend, J-1 intern Henry's art director and media director invited him to a BBQ with their friends. They enjoyed delicious BBQ and cheeseburgers by the lake and had a great evening together watching the fireworks. This informal gathering provided Henry with a wonderful opportunity to bond with his colleagues outside of work, fostering stronger professional relationships and teamwork. After the event, Henry continued his solo road trip around Lake Michigan, reflecting on the insights and connections made during their time together.

The Charles River is the most prominent urban river in New England, and it also happens to be just a 15-minute walk from FUSIA's J-1 intern Michelle's workplace! After work, Michelle and her colleagues at Anthology went kayaking, and afterward, they enjoyed dinner together.

J-1 Intern Keith participated in a thrilling team-building event at Boda Borg, where groups of 3 to 6 embarked on a series of challenging quest rooms. Each room presented unique puzzles that required a blend of physical agility and mental sharpness to progress. The event was an excellent opportunity for Keith and his colleagues to collaborate, problem-solve, and strengthen their teamwork skills. J-1 intern Louis recently embarked on a four-day trip to California, experiencing the state’s diverse landscapes and historical landmarks. The journey began with an exploration of Yosemite National Park, where Louis encountered the park's stunning granite cliffs, majestic waterfalls, and ancient sequoias, gaining valuable insights into geological formations and ecological diversity.

In San Francisco, Louis immersed himself in the city's vibrant culture and history, visiting iconic landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, which provided a deeper understanding of engineering marvels and urban planning. The trip also included a visit to Alcatraz Island, where Louis learned about the island's intriguing history as a notorious federal prison, offering an educational perspective on criminal justice and historical incarceration practices.

Embarked on a captivating camping expedition amidst the untamed beauty of Houston’s wilderness alongside the esteemed company CEO Chad, his family and friends. Immersed ourselves in the exhilarating spirit of the renowned Houston Rodeo alongside Allthenticate, an annual tradition celebrated with fervor. My colleagues and I visited the American history museum to learn more about the American culture and history. We dined together for lunch and then proceeded to visit the exhibits showcasing the different wars and history behind the America that is built today. I found it very interesting to see and learn the perspectives in American and world history. I also learnt what are the information my colleagues as Americans were taught at school and it was nice to hear their experiences in school learning these as well.

Derrick, a J1 intern, recently had the opportunity to partake in both a rodeo and a whale watching excursion with his colleagues. The rodeo left Derrick enthralled as he witnessed skilled cowboys and cowgirls demonstrating their expertise in bull riding and barrel racing. The adrenaline-pumping atmosphere and camaraderie among his colleagues made the experience unforgettable.

On another occasion, Derrick and his team embarked on a boat into the vast ocean for whale watching. Eagerly scanning the horizon, they were rewarded with the breathtaking sight of a majestic whale breaching the surface. This awe-inspiring moment sparked joy and excitement among the group, fostering lasting bonds and cherished memories.

Attending the Boston Marathon was awe-Inspiring. The energy was palpable as runners from around the world embarked on their 26.2-Mile journey. Amidst the cheers of spectators, I witnessed the resilience and camaraderie that define this iconic event. The marathon showcased the power of human spirit and perseverance. Hearing firsthand accounts from my supervisor who ran a least 5 times in the Boston Marathon added a personal touch, highlighting its significance within the local community. Beyond athletics, the marathon provided a glimpse into American culture and the unifying force of sports. It left an indelible mark, celebrating values of resilience, determination, and community.
